WLG - Annual Meeting - 26 July 2012
WLG - Annual General Meeting – Thursday 26th July 2012 at 7.00pm. To be followed by a Community Science Update with reports from Fonterra, DairyNZ, DOC and Environment Southland, then supper.

Gravel Pit becomes wetland
26 May, 2012:
The Gravel Pit restoration continued through the year and the area is now looking more like a natural wetland. With a good level of water in Polly's Pond, we are seeing the return of wildlife to the area.

School Ambassadors on the Job
1 April, 2012: The WLG's partnership with the Gorge Road School took a step up with the recent appointment of the Waituna Ambassadors. Their first day was a planting session at the Gravel Pit, followed by a walk through Foveaux Investments forest track.

Volunteers to the Rescue
7 Feb, 2012: Fonterra sponsor the Conservation Volunteers to assist with projects in the Waituna Catchment. The WLG are most appreciative of their work.

Restoration underway
Jul 12, 2011: Just over a year ago the old gravel pit on the corner of Hanson Rd and Waituna Lagoon Rd was an eyesore, with dead and dying gorse, rubbish dumped and tracks from 4wding this way and that.

This Environment Southland newsletter was presented to Landcare group members at their AGM last Thursday night. It provides an update on the current state of water quality in the Waituna catchment creeks and of the lagoon

Koura Kraze Activity for Gorge Road School
Gorge Road School pupils had the chance to explore what lives in the streams of the Waituna Catchment. The main purpose was to see where koura were living, as they are a good indication of stream health.

Dedicated Land Sustainability Officer for Waituna Catchment
7 May 2009 -- Katrina Robertson has recently been appointed to this position - a first for Southland to have an LSO that has one catchment as their focus for the promotion of Best Management Practices.

New WLG signs at Mokotua Dairy
6 May 2009 -- Read All About It - Two new signs at the Mokotua Dairy will help the community to know what's going on in the catchment.

World Wetlands Day
DoC organised the Southland event this year, tying it in with the opening of the Waituna boardwalk and the recent interpretation panels erected in the shelter.

Japanese company to help
green up Waipara

An ecological restoration programme in North Canterbury has attracted significant financial support from a Japanese company which promotes socially and environmentally responsible business.

WLG Photo Competition
For the second year, WLG organised a photo competition held in conjunction with the Gorge Road School Pet Day in October.
